The A-5 lives up to Tippmann’s reputation for reliability, while still offering one of the highest rates of fire and accuracy for mid-priced markers. The cyclone feeding system, which force-feeds paintballs from the hopper into the chamber, is a necessary device that allows the A-5 to achieve its high rate of fire. Ball-breaks and misfires in the hopper are almost unheard of. Field stripping can be accomplished in second. This marker may be too bulky to be useful to tournament players but is ideal for the recreational paintballer.
Upgrades: There are many upgrades for the A-5. The three most popular upgrades are the Flatline barrel for the A-5 which adds 100 feet of flat trajectory, the Response Trigger System which increases your trigger speed by resetting the trigger and sear with excess gas during firing, and the E-Grip which uses an electronic control board to activate a solenoid. The E-Grip features Semi-Auto, Auto-Response, Full-Auto, 3 Shot Burst, and Turbo.
Performance: The A-5 is a useful marker for those players who prefer to be close and personal in their game. With a response trigger and the cyclone feeder, there are few recreational markers, or even tournament markers, that surpass the firepower that the A-5 can offer. One of the most important upgrades that are recommended for the A-5 would be the stock barrel. The stock barrel is loud and in-accurate after 65 feet.
Maintenance: The A-5 is easily maintained both in the field and at home. There are four pushpins that are easily-removed, when the pushpins are removed the A-5 breaks down easily to offer fast and efficient cleaning.
In our opinion, the Tippmann A-5 is worth the $300 msrp.
